ANU students receive CAS Hawker Scholarships

An international relations student from the College of Arts and Social Sciences is among two ANU students who've won prestigious Charles Hawker Scholarships for their academic excellence and their contribution to the community.
Alasdair McCall, studying a Bachelor of International Relations/Bachelor of Commerce and Timothy Hobbs, who is studying Law and International Security, are among five student winners around Australia.
The Scholarships, worth up to $50,000 over three years, were presented at Burgmann College by former Governor-General, the Hon Michael Jeffery AC, AO (Mil), CVO, MC (Retd).
"I congratulate the five 2016 scholars, each of whom has already displayed a strong commitment to the splendid ideals upon which the Charles Hawker Scholarship Memorial Trust Fund is founded," he said.
"They are gifted scholars with inquiring minds and have already significantly contributed to the wellbeing of the wider community".
The five successful candidates for 2016 were selected from a field of 187 applicants.
Applications for the 2017 Charles Hawker Scholarships open in December and close on 6 January 2017.
